Membership:  Currently, the Association has a total of 117 members,  26 of which are Life Members, 86 are instructor members,  and five are associate members.  Membership dues are $20.00/year and are due January 01 of each year.  Life Membership dues are presently $150.00.  Dues may be sent to Danny Bartee, Treasurer, 7120 Dry Fork Road, Dry Fork, VA  24549.

Elections:  This year (an odd year) is the time to elect a Vice President and Treasurer.  The election will take place at the annual meeting of the Association on September 19, 2009.  These positions may receive nominations by either mail or at the annual meeting; they will be voted on and approved at this meeting by a majority vote of the members present at the meeting.  Regional Directors for Regions 1, 3 and 5 will be elected at this time as well.  They will be nominated and elected from the membership within their respective regions.  All new officers will hold their positions for two years and their terms will begin on January 01, 2010.

Projects/Activities:
1) In March, the Association began a fundraiser by selling raffle tickets for a reconditioned Remington Model 870.  The winning ticket will be drawn at the September annual meeting.  Proceeds will be placed in the general fund of VHEA.
2) On April 11, a Wounded Warriors Spring Turkey Hunt was held in Region I, at the home of Cindy and Rob Zepp.  The hunt was very successful in that two turkeys were taken and everyone, including the disabled vets and all of the volunteers, had a grand time.
3) VHEA has purchased treestand safety brochures for distribution to hunters at various events, including Sportsman’s shows, etc.  VHEA is acknowledged as providing the brochures.
4) VHEA Banner:  a large banner with the VHEA logo is available for use at events where VHEA members are associated and VHEA is represented.  Contact Pres. Kennedy for its use.
5) Computers:  fifteen or so refurbished computers have been distributed throughout VA for use by HE instructors for presentation of their HE classes.  The Association thanks Jesse Ebron for his expertise in getting the computers in useable condition.  See your Regional Director about acquiring one for use at your next HE class if one is needed.
6) VHEA Website:  the website, www.vahea.org continues to provide interesting articles and links to other websites that may be of interest to VHEA members.  Please contact Pres. Kennedy if you would like to contribute articles or suggestions for the website.
7) In June/July, a letter was written by the Association and sent to all of the VDGIF-certified HE instructors in the state, encouraging them to become interested in, and joining VHEA.  To date, several new members and life members have been recruited.
8) As of August 01, active VHEA members have liability insurance while attending and volunteering at VHEA associated events.
9) In July, the Association contributed a treestand for a giveaway at the upcoming Sportsman’s Show in Richmond, August 7-9.  Those who sign up for the drawing will be making a pledge that they will wear their safety harnesses when hunting from a deerstand.
10) VHEA booths have been present at various events across the state, mainly to promote hunting safety, but also to recruit new HE instructors and members of the Association.
11) Later in August 2009, VHEA will be presenting Henry Golden Boy .22 Rifles to those dedicated volunteers who have contributed 5000 hours to the Hunter Education program.  These honored folks, Danny Bartee and __________Taylor, will receive these at a VDGIF Board Meeting where they will be recognized by the Department.
12) A disabled veterans crossbow hunt is in the early stages for a deer hunt for this fall.  Lee Turner and John Dunne are the instrumental workers for this event and anyone interested in helping out with this exciting activity should contact one of them soon.
13) Youth deer and rabbit hunts are in the works for this coming fall/winter seasons.
14) A waterfowl hunt for disabled veterans is planned for Region 1 for the fall.
15) Presently being formed and needing volunteers, are various committees within VHEA.  The committees are:  Fund Raising, Computers (for maintenance/repair and possible future purchase of new ones), and Crossbow Hunt for Disable Veterans.

As the Association grows and recruits new members, we should see new ideas and projects being introduced and implemented.  We welcome suggestions, ideas and recommendations for improvement by its membership.  Please see any of the Officers or Board Members.  The Association is a 501(c) 3 entity and accepts donations (monetary or equipment) which are tax deductible.
